Department of Economics

About Department:

The Department of Economics is as old as our college. The credit of establishing and developing the department goes to dedicated, popular and dynamic teacher viz Late Prof. K.C. Shivananjaiah, Prof.  K. H. Paramashivaiah, Prof.M. Channabasavaiah and Prof. B.L Vydeswara. Their contributions have enriched the department to a larger extent. At the beginning Late LateProf. K.C. Shivananjaiah, Prof.  K. H. Paramashivaiah were the staff members of the department later Prof. M. Channabasavaiah joined the department in 1973 and Prof. B.L Vydeswara in 1983. These teachers of Economics have also served as principals in the degree colleges run by SreeSiddaganga Education Society. The other teachers served in the department include Prof. L .Channappa, Prof. R. Suresha, Prof.Shivakumaraswamy,  Sheela and Aradya.  Dr. H.P. Veerabhadraswamy, Nagaraj NT, D.R.Mohan Kumar. Presently Dr. H.P. Veerabhadraswamy, Principal and heading The Department of Economics and Mohanakumari DM, Vishala MS are working as a faculty of the Department.

The Department of Economics is actively in engaged teaching the subject and updating the knowledge of the student community with the objective of creative them as social assets. At present, nearly 150 students are involved in the study of Economics. From the year of inception, our students have continuously excelled in academic and co-curricular activities. The results of our students are also appreciable. Our department students are equally proficient in sports and co-curricular activities. Many students of Economics have demonstrated their talents in Abhivyakthi–the annual cultural fest of our college.

Course Outcomes [CO's]

Programme: – HEP (History, Economics, Political Science)

                       HEE (History, Economics, Optional English)

The course BA with the above programme provides the following out Come:-

  1. It creates an opportunity to become a graduate
  2. It provides an eligibility to take competitive examinations conducted by the UPSC, KPSC and SSC.
  3. It would also create an opportunity to pursue the higher educations like MA MBA and other.
  4. It will also provides an eligibility for Joining the professional courses like B. Ed and LLB

Programme Outcomes [PO's]

The arts undergraduate program is designed to achieve the following outcomes:

PO1. To put in place structure and contents to make it an integrated and interdisciplinary program with flexibility and choice.

PO2.To reflect a general understanding of the concepts and principles of selected areas of the study thus providing students an opportunity to decide the specialization fields for making professional choices.

PO3.To augments the ability to describe and compare the roles, impacts and ethical implications of ideas, texts, social movements and contemporary situations.

PO4.Acquire analytical skills and develop a critical understanding of social, political economic and cultural processes, to present materials and ideas effectively on order to connect between the local, regional and global.

PO5.To integrate the treatment of topics by interlinking knowledge, skills, values and attitudes to action.

PO6.To provide an arena for reflective thinking and concern for the common good and application of social values.

PO7.Produce graduates with a foundation in professional ethics who will actively seek to positively impact their profession, community, and society.

Programme Specific Outcomes [PSO's]

PSO1: Economics leads to careers in business, law, education, banking, insurance, journalism, public policy, diplomacy, environmental science, international affairs and in research and consultancy.

PSO2: It is an important subject opted for different competitive exams i.e. Indian Economic Services (IES), Indian Administrative Services (IAS), Banking, National Sample Survey, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NITI Aayog etc.

PSO3: Students will  develop the ability to apply theoretical knowledge of Micro and Macro Economics  to explain the behavior of individuals, businesses and industries in market-based systems and analyze the challenges of developing economies.

PSO4: The study will help in enhancing numerical and computing ability and will also help in developing presentation skills.

PSO5:  It will enhance the ability to analyze economic behavior in practice.

PSO6: Students will be able to effectively communicate economic ideas to solve the various economic problems.

PSO7: Students will acquire problem solving skills and develop a logical way of dealing with various economic issues.

PSO8: Students will be able to explain the role of the government in the economy, including taxation, expenditure and production. They will also be able to analyze the impact of fiscal and monetary policy in the economy.
